So Why Do A Lot Of People Want To Learn To Play The Acoustic Guitar?

Through the years I’ve realized something. Everybody, and I mean everyone has a simple desire to learn music of some kind! Having played guitar for a long time, I’m always interested to learn how a ‘non musician’ understands music, so every time I’m out and I meet new people I usually inquire if they play an instrument, and more frequently I ask “if you could ever learn any instrument in the world, what one would it be and why?” the response you may have suspected it’s quite traditional.

Drums or guitar for boys and piano for girls. I do believe when most of the people tell me that they would love to learn an instrument, and I also believe them when they hesitantly disclose that they merely are unable to spare the time needed to deal with learning an instrument, let alone buying one.

The guitar is consequently one of the popular common instrument picked by people. How come?

After devoting some time thinking about it I came to several conclusions. A big reason is practicality!

Getting a guitar is obviously cheaper than purchasing a drum kit or perhaps a piano along with being easier to carry around. It’s also easier to cover most genres of music using a guitar. You’ll be able to play ballads just as easily as you can play rock anthems. The guitar’s got it all!

Of course, individuals have different goals when it comes to what they desire to accomplish when they learn an instrument,but the majority of people are just happy to learn a few chords and techniques for them to play their favorite tunes, and just play around using the guitar after work. This brings me to my personal favorite reason why people enjoy playing guitar - it’s therapeutic.

A few people recognize this, and most people smile in agreement when I share this thought with them. Coming home from work or school and playing a couple of popular chords while your brother/sister/mate/uncle/evil-monkey-in-the-closet is busy searching the lyrics on their phone or laptop, is actually relaxing and enjoyable.

So embrace the desire, act on it, make music…
